Friendship Circle Program Manager

The mission of the Friendship Circle is to create connection in the lives of individuals with special needs and those facing isolation, and to provide an opportunity for participants to become contributing members of an inclusive community that values all individuals.


The program also provides support and resources to assist the families of individuals with special needs.

 

Through interactive, educational programming for teens and young adults, the program also aims to build character, confidence and increase awareness of the special needs community.

The program manager will oversee all aspects of the program. To protect health and safety during the Covid-19 pandemic, some of the work may be done virtually.

Position Type: Full time, including some evenings and weekends
Pay: Competitive salary

Responsibilities of the program manager include but are not limited to the following:

 

Community Outreach

  • Recruit families that may be able to benefit from Friendship Circle

  • Publicize and recruit for events

  • Meet interested families to discuss programs and events and help participants register

  • Recruit and expand the volunteer pool particularly teen volunteers

  • Match volunteers with program participants to develop and foster friendships

  • Attend industry and community events to recruit volunteers, network with potential donors, and spread the word about Friendship Circle

 

Management

  • Plan and execute programs and events to ensure effective operations; tasks may include hiring staff, buying supplies, booking entertainment, ordering food

  • Manage communications with parents, volunteers and donors

  • Manage database of participants and volunteers

 

Leadership Skills

  • People person: Passionately believes in people

  • Organized: Can oversee multiple operations; accountable

  • Dedicated: Has the drive to get it done (even doing the down and dirty)

  • Strategic: Thinks strategically

  • Particularly in outreach to teens

Qualifications

  • Experience in community outreach and marketing

  • Experience in planning and executing programs within a charitable organization

  • Experience in the learning disability field is an asset

  • Experience working with volunteers and staff with a wide range of abilities

  • Superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, internet, social media, office productivity and publishing tools
